Description

"Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy's shoulders to let him know that the world hadn't ended." -Batman to Commissioner Gordan in the Dark Knight Rises

Detective Travis Nie (First appearance New 52 Nightwing #10) notices the first snowfall in Gotham, and looks over to see a kid with a bloody broken nose in a skin tight suit.

Travis doesn't like the vigilante, but he's not gonna let the kid freeze to death, so he puts his coat on Nightwing.

Nightwing looks at him and smiles."Suit is insulated."

Travis made a fool of himself, and Dick appreciates that.

Well...cept that Nightwing isn't a young boy, but I just wanted to do some parallel comparisons. :meow: Long post ahead!

Oh boy...where to start on this picture? haha, it must be pretty crazy to see someone draw this in the first place.

Okies, I have all these weird headcanons in my head that I'm pretty sure that not very many people get or really care for. :XD:... And I spend so much time on these pictures that I know won't get too popular too. I'm actually pretty embarrassed bout this one though.

So the blond is a man named Travis Nie, who first appeared in Nightwing #10 New 52. Yeah, if anyone has been reading the New 52 Nightwing maaaaaaybe you'll recognize him? Anyways, I think he's a pretty interesting character for many reasons:

:bulletred: First, I'm hoping he is like the Commissioner Gordan to Bruce...except for Nightwing. I want Dick and Travis to have a partnership on different sides of the law and become buddies and all that good stuff. It just sounds like fun! Nightwing needs some good supporting characters just like Bruce too.

:bulletyellow: Second, Detective Nie seems like he doesn't mind breaking the rules. After all, I think he got suspended from the Gotham Police Department because he did something bad. (although there was no proof). He is also a bit hot-headed and stubborn, which I think is kinda funny. Anyways, this can help Nightwing as long as Travis is careful.

:bulletgreen: Third, he and Nightwing got off to a bad start...(which I also think is funny). They didn't trust each other and accused the other of crimes they didn't commit. At the end of the Nightwing Paragon Arc they redeemed themselves to each other by saving each others butts; however, they have not gotten a chance to really chat or anything since Nightwing left for Chicago...and, well, Forever Evil stuff.

:bulletblue: Fourth, god...look at that shirt and tie combo Travis is wearing. That's what Travis wore in Nightwing #12, so I drew it. Reminds me of Disco Nightwing. They would get along in terms of fashion.

:bulletblack: Fifth, Travis is gay. His boyfriend was killed in an crime Nightwing was involved with if you don't know (poor guy). I can see Travis developing a love/hate relationship with Nightwing while secretly crushing on him. Seriously, Dick wears a skin tight suit that doesn't really hide anything! How can he not?! I don't think Dick knows that Travis is gay though, soooo I can totally imagine a silly romantic comedy on the side of crime fighting. They don't have to get together though. It just would be an interesting dynamic to see.

(Secretly, I like pairing Travis up with Nightwing.)

Anyways, what I'm saying is Travis Nie is an interesting character I want to see more of. Kyle Higgins is doing a pretty good job of introducing new and interesting characters. I'm sad because of all the crossovers Nightwing has, that Higgins doesn't seem to get a chance to completely tell the stories for the characters he creates. Anyways, I hope Nightwing goes back to Gotham and meets up with this semi-corrupt detective at some point in the future.

Oh also, the whole coat idea had made some significant reappearance in Batman #26. What a coincidence!

Phew...anyways, hope you guys like it. Please chat or comment with me about this piece. I'm kinda curious why you like this piece, so please tell me. I love comments and I worked very hard on it!

I know pic is horribly stiff as usual. I think some proportions are all whacked too. :saddummy:

And if this inspires anyone to write some fanfic...let me know. :p I would be very very surprised.

Edit: Okies well, Kyle Higgins is not gonna write Nightwing anymore. So much for this idea! Sweating a little...

I love your ideas, behind this image. The image itself is a great work of art. If, only Nightwing was in his real suit and not the Deathwing suit that the New 52 made him wear, it would would totally be the cover of my next Fanfiction. But, regardless? I love it, as is! Great job! Beautiful work of art.
